มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี (มจธ.) ไม่ได้เป็นเพียงสถาบันการศึกษาชั้นนำ แต่ยังเป็นแหล่งรวมความภาคภูมิใจและเกียรติยศอันยาวนาน ที่สะท้อนผ่านสัญลักษณ์สำคัญอย่าง เข็มตราและชุดครุย ที่บัณฑิตทุกคนประดับในวันอันทรงเกียรติ

     ย้อนกลับไปในปี พ.ศ. 2513 พระบาทสมเด็จพระบรมชนกาธิเบศร มหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช บรมนาถบพิตร (ในหลวงรัชกาลที่ 9) ได้พระราชทานนาม "พระจอมเกล้า" ให้แก่สถาบัน ซึ่งเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของเกียรติยศอันยิ่งใหญ่ กระทั่งในปีถัดมา พ.ศ. 2514 พระองค์ยังได้พระราชทานพระบรมราชานุญาตให้อัญเชิญ "พระมหามงกุฎ" ซึ่งเป็นตราพระราชลัญจกรประจำพระองค์พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 4 มาออกแบบเป็นตราสัญลักษณ์ประจำสถาบัน จวบจนปัจจุบัน

สถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้า วิทยาเขตธนบุรี

    ความหมายอันทรงคุณค่าของเข็มตราที่ประดับบนชุดครุยบัณฑิต ไม่ได้เป็นเพียงเครื่องประดับ แต่ยังแฝงไว้ด้วยความหมายอันลึกซึ้งที่สะท้อนถึงเกียรติยศและคุณค่าของสถาบัน ซึ่งมีอยู่ 2 รูปแบบหลักๆ คือ:

1. เข็มกลัดติดชุดครุย (แบบเก่า):
   • พระมหาพิชัยมงกุฎ (ตรงกลาง): สื่อถึงพระมหากษัตริย์ไทย
   • ลำแสงรัศมี (แผ่ออกจากยอด): เปรียบเสมือนพระบารมีของพระมหากษัตริย์ที่แผ่ไพศาล คุ้มครองประชาชนและแผ่นดิน
   • ลายพู่ขนนกและลายไทย (ล้อมรอบ): สื่อถึงความสง่างาม ความอ่อนช้อย และเกียรติยศ
   • ฐานลายกลีบบัว (ส่วนล่าง): หมายถึงความมั่นคง ความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ และความเป็นสิริมงคล
2. เข็มกลัดติดชุดครุย (แบบปัจจุบัน):
   • พระมหาพิชัยมงกุฎ: สัญลักษณ์ของพระมหากษัตริย์ไทย แสดงถึงพระราชอำนาจสูงสุดในแผ่นดิน
   • ลายพู่ขนนก (ด้านข้างและด้านบน): เปรียบเสมือนความสง่างาม ความอ่อนช้อย และความมีเกียรติ
   • ฐานเมฆ (หรือฐานกลีบบัว รองรับพระมหาพิชัยมงกุฎ): เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความมั่นคง ความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ และความเป็นสิริมงคล

เมื่อครั้งวิทยาลัยเทคนิคธนบุรี ยกระดับเป็นสถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้า วิทยาเขตธนบุรี โดยผ่านพระราชบัญญัติสถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้า พ.ศ. 2515 ราชกิจจานุเบกษา เล่ม 88 ตอนที่ 43 ก พิเศษ หน้า 103 จึงทำให้มีการรับพระราชทานปริญญาบัตรชึ้น เพื่อความเป็นระเบียบและสมเกียรติในพิธีพระราชทานปริญญาบัตร ได้มีการกำหนดเครื่องแบบสำหรับบัณฑิตไว้ดังนี้ ตามข้อบังคับสถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าว่าด้วยเครื่องเเบบนักศึกษาสถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้า พ.ศ. 2515 อ้างอิงจากหนังสือพิธีพระราชทานปริญญาบัตรสถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้า : 18 ตุลาคม 2515

    นักศึกษาชาย :  สวมหมวกตามแบบที่สถาบันกำหนด เสื้อนอกแบบราชการสีขาว ติดกระดุมสีทองตราสถาบัน 5 เม็ด ติดเครื่องหมายสัญลักษณ์ของสถาบันที่คอเสื้อทั้งสองข้าง กางเกงสากลสีขาว ไม่รัดรูป ขายาวถึงหลังเท้า ไม่พับปลายขา รองเท้าหุ้มส้นชนิดผูกสีดำ

      นักศึกษาหญิง : สวมหมวกตามแบบที่สถาบันกำหนด เสื้อเครื่องแบบเวลาเรียน กระโปรงผ้าสีกรมท่า เข็มขัดสีดำพร้อมเครื่องหมายสถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้า ติดตราสถาบันเหนืออกเบื้องซ้าย รองเท้าหุ้มส้นสีดำปิดปลายเท้า 

     เข็มขัดที่ใช้ในพิธีพระราชทานปริญญาบัตรของสถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี เป็นเข็มขัดสีดำ หัวเข็มขัดมีตราพระมหามงกุฎ และมีข้อความว่า “สถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี” ซึ่งเป็นชื่อเดิมของมหาวิทยาลัย โดยในปัจจุบันยังคงใช้ตราพระมหามงกุฎเช่นเดิม แต่เปลี่ยนข้อความรอบตราเป็น “มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี” ซึ่งเรียงเป็นแนวโค้งตามรูปแบบใหม่ของสถาบัน

      ในพ.ศ. 2515 สถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้า วิทยาเขตธนบุรี ได้จัดพิธีพระราชทานปริญญาบัตรครั้งแรกแก่ผู้สำเร็จการศึกษาในครั้งนั้นบัณฑิตจาก 3 วิทยาลัย ได้แก่ วิทยาลัยโทรคมนาคมนนทบุรี (สถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าคุณทหารลาดกระบัง) วิทยาลัยเทคนิคพระนครเหนือ (มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าพระนครเหนือ) เเละวิทยาลัยเทคนิคธนบุรี (มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี)  จากคำบอกเล่าจากศิษย์เก่ารับรวมรุ่น 1-8 เป็นคณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ดังภาพที่ปรากฏ

พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว และสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ประกอบพิธีพระราชทานปริญญาบัตรขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรก ณ หอประชุมคุรุสภา กระทรวงศึกษาธิการ

บัณฑิตที่เข้ารับพระราชทานปริญญาบัตร คณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ สถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้า ธนบุรี 2515

    พิธีพระราชทานปริญญาบัตรในปัจจุบัน โดยในปีการศึกษา 2566 พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้สมเด็จพระกนิษฐาธิราชเจ้า กรมสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี เสด็จพระราชดำเนินแทนพระองค์ ในพิธีพระราชทานปริญญาบัตรแก่ผู้สำเร็จการศึกษาจากมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี ในวันที่ 8 สิงหาคม 2568 ณ หอประชุมกองทัพเรือ เขตบางกอกใหญ่ (ระเบียบการแต่งกายบัณฑิต)

    โดยมีข้อกำหนดในการแต่งกายดังนี้

• บัณฑิตชาย  ทรงผม สุภาพ ไม่ยาวเกินต้นคอ  เสื้อนอกแบบราชการสีขาว (เสื้อราชปะแตนสีขาว) ติดกระดุมโลหะสีทองลายพระมหามงกุฎ 5 เม็ด เข็มตราที่คอเสื้อทั้งสองข้าง ติดเข็มตราสัญลักษณ์ประจำมหาวิทยาลัย เฉพาะส่วนพระมหามงกุฎสีทอง อกเสื้อด้านซ้ายติดเข็มวิทยฐานะ กางเกงสากลสีขาว ไม่รัดรูป ผ้าชนิดเดียวกับเสื้อ ขายาวคลุมหลังเท้า ไม่พับปลายขา รองเท้าหนังหุ้มส้นสีดำ
• บัณฑิตหญิง ระดับปริญญาตรี ทรงผม จัดแต่งทรงสุภาพ เสื้อให้ใช้ชุดนักศึกษา ติดกระดุมที่คอเสื้อ ติดเข็มตราสัญลักษณ์ประจำมหาวิทยาลัย เฉพาะส่วนพระมหามงกุฎที่อกเสื้อด้านซ้าย และให้ติดเข็มวิทยฐานะที่อกเสื้อด้านขวา  กระโปรง สีน้ำเงินหรือสีกรมท่า ความยาวคลุมเขาไม่เกินชายครุย เข็มขัดหนังสีดำ หัวเข็มขัดรูปสี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้า โลหะรมดำ มีลายดุนนูนตราสัญลักษณ์ประจำมหาวิทยาลัย เฉพาะส่วนพระมหามงกุฎ รองเท้าหนังหุ้มส้น สีดำ ปิดปลายเท้า

•  บัณฑิตชายและบัณฑิตหญิงทุกระดับ ที่เป็นข้าราชการ หรือรัฐวิสาหกิจ

ทรงผม จัดแต่งทรงสุภาพ แต่งชุดปกติขาว ติดเครื่องหมายประจำกระทรวง ทบวง กรมที่สังกัด พร้อมแถบยศ แถบเครื่องราช อิสริยาภรณ์ตามฐานะที่ได้รับ และติดเข็มวิทยฐานะที่อกเสื้อด้านซ้าย ใต้แถบเครื่องราชอิสริยาภรณ์ 

กรณีราชการทหาร ให้มีอุปกรณ์ประกอบการแต่งกายในชุดราชพิธีโดยเป็นไปตามระเบียบของ เหล่าทัพนั้น ๆ  รองเท้าหนังหุ้มส้น สีดำ

เข็มตราและชุดครุยของมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี ไม่ได้เป็นเพียงเครื่องแต่งกายสำหรับพิธีการ หากแต่เป็นสัญลักษณ์แห่งเกียรติยศที่สะท้อนถึงประวัติศาสตร์อันยาวนาน พระมหากรุณาธิคุณของพระมหากษัตริย์ไทย รวมถึงความมุ่งมั่นและความสำเร็จของบัณฑิตทุกคนที่จบการศึกษาจากสถาบันแห่งนี้ 

King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) is not only a leading educational institution but also a source of long-standing pride and honor, reflected in important symbols such as the emblem and academic gown that all graduates wear on their special day.

Back in 1970, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (King Rama IX) bestowed the name "King Mongkut" upon the institution, marking the beginning of its great honor. The following year, in 1971, His Majesty also granted royal permission to use the "Great Crown," which is the royal seal of His Majesty King Mongkut (Rama IV), as the design for the university's emblem, which remains in use today.

King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Thonburi

The profound meaning of the emblem pin adorning the academic gown is not merely an ornament, but also imbued with deep significance reflecting the honor and value of the institution, which comes in two main forms:

1.   Academic gown pin (old style):

• Phra Maha Phichai Mongkut (center): Represents the Thai monarch.
• Rays of light (radiating from the top): Symbolize the monarch's widespread grace, protecting the people and the land.
• Feather tassel and Thai patterns (surrounding): Represent elegance, grace, and honor.
• Lotus petal base (bottom part): Signifies stability, sacredness, and auspiciousness.

2.Academic gown pin (current style):

• Phra Maha Phichai Mongkut: Symbol of the Thai monarch, representing the highest royal power in the land.
• Feather tassel patterns (sides and top): Symbolize elegance, grace, and honor.
• Cloud base (or lotus petal base, supporting Phra Maha Phichai Mongkut): A symbol of stability, sacredness, and auspiciousness.

When Thonburi Technical College was elevated to King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Thonburi Campus, through the King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Act B.E. 2515, Royal Gazette, Vol. 88, Part 43 A Special, Page 103, it led to the commencement of degree conferment ceremonies. For orderliness and honor in the degree conferment ceremony, uniforms for graduates were prescribed as follows, according to the King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Regulations on Student Uniforms B.E. 2515, referenced from the book King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Degree Conferment Ceremony: October 18, 2515

Male students: Wear the prescribed institute cap, a white official jacket with 5 gold buttons bearing the institute's emblem, institute symbols on both collar sides, white formal trousers that are not tight, long enough to cover the instep, with unhemmed cuffs, and black lace-up closed-toe shoes.

Female students: Wear the prescribed institute cap, a uniform shirt for class, a navy blue skirt, a black belt with the King Mongkut's Institute of Technology emblem, the institute emblem above the left chest, and black closed-toe shoes.

The belt used in the graduation ceremony of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Thonburi is a black belt. The buckle features the Phra Maha Mongkut (Great Crown) emblem and the text "King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Thonburi," which was the university's original name. Currently, the Phra Maha Mongkut emblem is still used, but the text around the emblem has been changed to "King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi," arranged in a curve according to the institute's new design.

In 1972, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Thonburi Campus held its first graduation ceremony for graduates. At that time, graduates from 3 colleges, namely Nonthaburi Telecommunication College (King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang), North Bangkok Technical College (King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok), and Thonburi Technical College (King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi), according to accounts from alumni of batches 1-8, formed the Faculty of Engineering as shown in the picture.

His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen Regent presided over the first graduation ceremony at the Kurusapha Auditorium, Ministry of Education.

The current graduation ceremony. For the academic year 2566, His Majesty the King graciously appointed Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Princess Debaratanarajasuda, the Princess Royal, to represent him at the graduation ceremony for graduates of King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi on August 8, 2568, at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Center, Bangkok Yai District (Graduate Dress Code).

The dress code is as follows:

• Male graduates: Hair neat, not longer than the nape of the neck. White official jacket (white raj pattern jacket) with 5 gold metal buttons featuring the Great Crown emblem. University emblem pins on both lapels, specifically the gold Great Crown part. Academic pin on the left chest. White formal trousers, not tight-fitting, same fabric as the jacket, long enough to cover the instep, no cuffs. Black leather closed-toe shoes.
• Female graduates (Bachelor's degree): Hair neatly styled. Student uniform top with a button at the collar. University emblem pin on the left chest, specifically the Great Crown part. Academic pin on the right chest. Blue or navy skirt, length covering the knees, not exceeding the academic gown hem. Black leather belt with a rectangular, blackened metal buckle embossed with the university emblem, specifically the Great Crown part. Black leather closed-toe shoes.

• Male and female graduates of all levels who are civil servants or state enterprise employees. Hair Neatly styled. Attire: White uniform with insignia of the ministry, bureau, or department to which they belong, along with rank insignia and royal decorations according to their status, and academic pins on the left side of the chest, below the royal decorations.

For military personnel, ceremonial attire accessories must comply with the regulations of their respective armed forces. Footwear: Black leather closed-toe shoes.

The emblem pin and academic regalia of King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi are not merely ceremonial attire. They are symbols of honor that reflect a long history, the royal grace of the Thai monarchs, and the dedication and achievements of every graduate from this institution.
